Homeschool Educator Discounts!

Discounts to homeschoolers are a privilege that we should use reasonably and respectfully. Do not expect a discount on that new romance book claiming it is for literature study. Each retailer is different, however, call first to get the details. Not all stores in all locations will offer the discount, again, call ahead if there is any question. Make sure you carry proper homeschool identification, such as a copy of your letter of intent, membership card such as HSLDA or your local support group card.

  • Staples Educator Appreciation Day starting in August! Click Here for information on a Staples Educator Appreciation Day at a location in your area. Or call 1-888-636-9555 for information on their Teacher Rewards Program

  • Border's Bookstores - If you are a homeschooler and can provide any applicable state certification, you are also eligible for the 20% Classroom Discount Card. Homeschoolers in states without certification should contact a manager at the store for instructions on how to document your status as a homeschooler. The 20% discount will be applied to the list price of books, music and videos purchased in a Borders store for use in the classroom or for classroom preparation (DVDs, non-stock special orders, used and out-of-print books, shipping, electronics, video games, periodicals and gift certificates are excluded).

  • Scholastic Book Fairs The link will take you to their webpage and you can find your nearest location. My first book fair was pretty amazing. Boxes of books all over the place, and they carry cd's too! Scholastic does not advertise their book fairs. Since we are homeschoolers we may attend. I do not recall them checking my id when we went the previous times. Check site for dates of sales. http://teacher.scholastic.com/fairs/warehouse/

Many museums offer a special membership to educators, so it is always worth it to ask.  Some museums and zoos will give you special memberships that allow you into multiple zoos or museums. You might even consider a yearly membership if they offer it so you can visit as often as you'd like.

Many stores do offer discounts to educators, if you are not sure the best way is to ask if they offer discounts to educators and find out if it is extended to homeschoolers as well. Be prepared to show identification that you are a homeschool parent. If they don't offer discounts to homeschoolers, nicely let them know that there are many homeschool families in this area that would benefit from shopping at that store. If a competitor offers a discount to homeschool educators, they would most likely want to know.

IF you know of other discounts, feel free to contact me with more information.
